Our traditional Chestnut Festival is taking place this year on October 24th and 25th, 2026. Yes, just like every year, the last weekend of October sees thousands of visitors flocking to the streets of Saint Pons de Thomières.

On the agenda: roasted chestnuts over an open fire, over 150 local producers, artisans, guild members, and more, brass bands, medieval entertainment, and plenty of other surprises!

As for accommodation, Camping Les Cerisiers du Jaur**** welcomes you with comfortable lodging, either in our classic or premium range, depending on your preferences. We also welcome you with your caravan, tent, or camper on our pitches with private sanitation facilities. Don't hesitate to contact us at 04 67 95 30 33.

Information on Visiting the Gorges d'Héric

The Gorges d'Héric, a must-see site in Hérault, are accessible year-round, offering an exceptional natural spectacle of fauna, flora, and remarkable geological formations. The site is free, but parking is chargeable from Easter to mid-September, with fees of €3.50 for a car and reduced rates for motorcycles and motorhomes. Visitors are encouraged to respect the surrounding nature by keeping dogs on a leash and taking all trash with them.

On-site, you will find picnic tables, toilets, a water point, and a snack bar open in season to refresh or refuel after your walk. The trails offer beautiful panoramas and are accessible for the whole family, including strollers for some sections.

Voie-verte Mazamet-Bédarieux a few steps from the campsite!

The former railway track connecting Bédarieux to Mazamet, lies in the heart of the Natural Parc of the Haut Languedoc and has been converted into a green trail.
The entrance is just opposite facing the camp site.
It runs 75 km and offers a protected area for cycling, jogging, hiking, horseback riding or donkeyrides.
Motor vehicles are strictly forbidden.

The green trail offers peaceful balads and other natural sites can be accessed along it's tracks.

The trail equally offers great views of the Montagne Noire, Piémont, and Caroux-Espinouse.
Since 2009 the green trail is called “Passa Païs” by the Natural Parc of the Haut Languedoc as it actually spans over two rural zones ; the rather humid Tarn and dry Hérault, the two districts aswell as two regions ; the Midi-Pyrénées and the Languedoc Roussillon.

The green trail runs through the shaded diversified landscapes of the Tarn to the open mediterranean land of the Hérault. The trail is bordered by fencing to ensure your safety, and its 6 tunnels light up automatically when crossed, until 7 pm. Benches have been introduced at regular intervals, and “ladies” will be happy to find sanitary facilities at St Amans Soult and the Courniou grottos. There's a refreshment stall at Lacabarède better known as “ the train station's halt”, as it's built in the former train station, where you can quench your thirst and offer yourself a ‘break'. Children will be pleased to find several play areas along the path.

Discover the heritage around the campsite

The region's cultural heritage is quite extensive.
Visit St Pons de Thomières where our camp site lays, and it's cathedral, prehistoric museum and the Jaur river spring aswell as the marbled pavements of the town.

Saint Pons de Thomières :

If you follow the Green track you'll find the centre of St Pons within walking distance at a mere 1.5km from the campsite.
The 2300 ‘Saints Ponais' live in the ‘Jaur'valley. It sets off against the impressive surrounding mountains, a favorite amongst hikers. Amidst the unspoilt countryside of the Natural Park of Haut Languedoc, St Pons to be a hospitable little town. A visit to the Benedictine abbey founded in 936 by Raymond PONS, Count of Toulouse is worth the effort. Audio description guides are available at the St Pons Tourist Office.

Saint Pons Cathedral :

Built in the 12th century as an abbey it later became a cathedral and has known several transformations during the 15th, 16th and 18th century. Its porch known as the "Gateway to the dead" is highly decorated. Inside, many alterations have taken place. The choir is enclosed by a magnificent gate richly decorated with marble. It exhibits a wonderful 18th century organ.

St Pons marble :

The history of the Saint Pons marble can be seen throughout various walks in and around the town. There's a short walk through the city center as a longer walk takes you to the outer skirts and needs a bit of exercising !All walks will be presented to you upon your arrival.

The Prehistoric Museum of Saint Pons :

Guided tours are available. The museum opened its doors in 1985, following the donation of Gabriel Rodrigues, a prehistorian, and has recently been renovated. It displays the chronological order of local civilizations, on the base of a variety of objects found following excavations in the nearby region of Saint Pons, in the caves of Camprafaud and Resplandy. Other objects are represented dating from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.

Source du Jaur (the Jaur spring) :

The permanent freshness is the perfect set-up to sit and admire Count Pons' crenellated tower, belonging to the fortified walls of his former palace. At the bed of the rock the Jaur comes to rest.

Grottes de la Devèze (the Devèze grottos) :

The Devèze grottos, of the Natural Park of the Haut Languedoc, were accidentally discovered on the construction site of a railway line. It's a most authentic, breathing cave, one of France' finest. The grotto is also known as “The palace of the glass spinner” because of the delicacy of its concretions.

Safari and potholing excursion :

The underground network of the Ponderatz caves is an unlimited terrain to adventure and discovery. You will discover the caves galleries, theatres and undergound river accompanied by a trained monitor. There are several itineraries available; from a beginners to a more intermediate level. All quite stimulating! All necessary material will be provided for.

The textile museum :

Labastide Rouairoux has a textile museum where you will discover the techniques used for wool transformation. The museum is a testimonial of craftsmenship and heritage.

Minerve and Olargues are listed villages belonging to' France's most beautiful villages', offering an agreeable stroll through it's village center and appreciate it's historic worth.

Olargues :

This picturesque village at the foot of the Espinouse mountain has been classified amongst the most beautiful villages of France. It lies there as if it were enlaced by a loop of the Jaur river, clinging itself as best it can to the promontory. A small tower guards the steep streets overlooking the cherry cultures that themselves out onto the valley. Enjoy the view of the river Jaur, the Espinouse or the Caroux with their mountain tops pointing to towards the horizon.

Minerve:

Minerva rises on a hilltop like an island detaching itself from the surrounding cliffs shaped out of the combined effects of glacial aswell as river erosion. It's a picturesque little city overlooking the barren and carved canyon where formerly the Cease and the Brian river used to flow. Its natural bridges are one of its many attractions. The Cathar tragedy remains impressed upon whoever visits this site: This is where the first stake was lit during the Albigensian crusade, and a 150 Cathars threw themselves onto the pyre honouring their belief.

Lacaune is the regional capital for pork products and it's museum will reveal all it's manufacturing secrets and gold medals rewarded by the Ministery of Agriculture and Food. Discover the local delicacies as bougnettes, tongued boudin, melsats, Lacaune grit, fricandeaux...

Local harvest :

Spring brings its delicious cherries and tasty canterelles waiting to be plucked or picked, as Autumn relishes any epicurean palet bringing boletus' and chestnuts. The “Fête de la Châtaigne” (the Chestnut fête) is held along the same time.

Wine :

Twice a week in July and August, a wine tasting takes place in our own camping, needless to say it has become very popular!
Why not discover some the regions finest cru at the local wine cellars and taste the various AOC's such as the Saint Chinian, Minervois, Faugères, Pic Saint Loup, Corbières and many more.
The region presents a wide range of Guest Farms.

Beautiful things to visit around camping Les Cerisiers du Jaur

Roquebrun :

Its medieval tower overlooks the winding cobbled streets, whilst its mediterranean climate favors the growth of mimosas (blossom in February), orange lemon and tangerine trees.

Roquebrun Mediterranean garden:

This mediterranean garden Shaped of stone terraces displays a collection of over 400 mediterranean and exotic varieties, amongst which the prickly pear, jujube, arbutus' and the Japanse medlar junipers.

Saint Chinian :

In Occitan : “Sanch Inhan”. Since 1982 the vineyards of Saint-Chinian are certified, AOC and represented by some twenty villages. The vineyards lie to the South-East of Saint-Pons and produce some of the region's best wines. The village in itself is typically picturesque and stretches itself on both sides of the Orb and the Verzanobre rivers and is set off against the Caroux and Espinouse mountains.

L'oppidum d'Ensérune :

In Ensérune, lie the still very illustrative remains of a fortified city where several overlapping layers of pre-Roman civilization were discovered. The Oppidum dominates the plain surrounding Béziers of which this settlement is the main attraction. The museum is built on the site of the old city and exposes the archeological finds describing everyday life from the VIth century BC to the the Ist century AD. Check out the view over the ancient pond of Montady, drained in 1247 and offering a spectacular view.

Béziers :

The town is built on a strategic spur, surrounded by stairs and dominated by a magnificent cathedral. It's well known to wine amateurs as the capital of the Languedoc vineyards. Others recall Béziers as being the birthtown from the engineer of the Canal du Midi ; Pierre Paul Riquet. And last but not least, for its ‘Feria' in August, when the whole city just bursts of festivities.

Le Canal du Midi :

Its udisputed techinal prowess alone could account for its success but that's forgetting its beautiful banks, the calmness of its flow, as are the many interesting sights along its course taking one throughout the Languedoc, from the "Méditerranée" to the "Lauragais", along idyllic landscapes, historical towns and beautiful monuments.

Carcassone :

What marvel! The view of the city looking across the surrounding vineyards set off gainst the Corbières countryside is absolutely breathtaking.The Canal du Midi was classified World Heritage Site by the Unesco in 1996, Carcassonne obtained the same honour in 1997. The city leaves a lasting impression to anyone having strolled through its little passages or along its city walls or paid a visit to its castle.The city of Carcassonne is Europe's largest fortification. It consists of a fortified center, the Comtal Castle, and a counterpart surround : the outward wall has fourteen towers and is separated from the inner wall (that counts 24 towers) by the promontary.

Castres :

Castres was a flourishing city kown for its textile industry, as testify the ancient weavers, dyers and tanners dwellings, rising up on the riverbanks of the Agoût. The city now posesses an illustrious museum, called the museum of Hispanic Art. The plans of the building were drawn by Mansart ; the plans of the gardens were made by le Nôtre. The museum possesses an exceptional collection of works by Goya. All around Castres you will discover the wonderful landscapes as the Sidobre, the Montagne Noire or the Mountains of Lacaune.

Le Sidobre :

The monumental granite quarries reveal the economic aswell as touristic importance of the Sidobre. Its characteristic landscapes of granite rocks, are a result of erosion. Those enormous blocks of rock balanced off against one another, looking like a river of rocks,are called ‘compayrés', and form the main attraction of the Sidobre.

Lacaune :

The town holds many thermal wells, and some amazing walks are to be made through the surrounding mountains or the green Gijou valley. Our Belgian tourists will be pleased to discover the fountain of the pissing boys placed on the Griffoul square, in the town's centre, possibly a reminder of their homeland!

Lamalou les bains :

Lamalou's thermal activity was first recorded in the 13th century, when the healing propensity of its water was discovered. The town's also a great outset for excursions to the Caroux, as not less than fifteen springs stream through the geological gulches cutting across the valley. The springs' water is full of iron and contains sodium, calcium, potassium, magnesium and carbon dioxide.

Pézenas :

Is an ancient protected townscape renowned for it's medieval residences and town houses of the 17th and 18th century, better known as the town of Molière, the famous French playwright.
The countless museums as the Toy Museum, the Historic Door Museum and the Boby Lapointe Museum (French singer song-writer), art galleries, craft workshops, antique dealers, book fairs, the Molière scenovision using 3D and surround technologies, a throwback in time. Open studio evenings and wine fairs will be sure to fill your summer evenings.

Gorges d'Heric (the Heric canyons):

Wild vegetation majestically coveres its coloured rocks. The circuit will take you down from the river that springs from the high rocks to the the placid natural pools, the largest being the ‘Cherry Abyss'. Why not have a pick-nick on the waterfront and admire the magnificent Farrières circus overshadowed by needleshape cliffs. There's a choice out of two options : Active people will enjoy a 3-hour walk back and forth right through the great canyons.

At the end of the excursion lies Heric, a tiny Hamlet with slate roofs.
Others may prefer to go for a stroll, or swim and take in the amazing surroundings.
The mouflon watchings have been orchastrated to enable observation of these representative species of the Caroux.

The Colombières canyons :

On the right bank of the Orb river at the foot of the mount Caroux beautiful lagoons and amazing views can be easily reached and do not require too much effort.
This impressive natural spot is ideal for confirmed hikers and offers a 13 km track with a 600m gradation.
